YouTubeでみつけた、The IT Crowd のワンシーン。何これ面白い。GEEKが活躍してるしイギリスらしいバカっぽさがあります。

ジェン役の女性は、SHERLOCKで週刊誌の記者役で出てましたね。

[Jen looks at a small black box, which has a small red LED light on the top. Moss stands next to her.]
ジェンは表に赤いLEDライトのついた小さな黒い箱を見ている。モスはジェンの隣に立っている。

Jen: What is it?
ジェン：これ何？

Moss: This, Jen, is the Internet.
モス：これがジェン、インターネットさ。

Jen: What?
ジェン：え？

Moss: That's right.
モス：その通り。

Jen: This is the Internet? [Moss nods.] The whole Internet?
ジェン：これがインターネット？（モスがうなずく）インターネットのすべて？

Moss: Yep. I asked for a loan of it, so that you could use it in your speech.
モス：そう、借りていいかきいたよ、君のスピーチに使っていいかって。

Jen: It's so small!
ジェン：すごく小さいのね！

Moss: That's one of the surprising things about it.
モス：それが驚きのうちの一つだね。

Jen: Hang on, it doesn't have any wires or anything...
ジェン：待って。線とか出てないけど…

Moss: It's wireless!
モス：ワイヤレスだもん！

Jen: Oh, yes, everything's wireless these days, isn't it? So I can really use it in my speech? What if someone needs it?
ジェン：そうね、今は何でもワイヤレスよね。で、私のスピーチに使っちゃっていいの？もし他の誰かが欲しがったら？

Moss: Oh no, people will still be able to go online and everything; it'll still work.
モス：ああもう、誰でも何でもオンラインでできる。使えるんだよ。

Jen: Oh, good.
ジェン：よかった。

Moss: I tell you: you present this to the shareholders, and you'll get quite the response.
モス：言っとくよ。株主にこれを見せれば、すっごくウケるよ。

Jen: Can I touch it? [Moss nods; Jen picks the box up] Ooh, it's so light.
ジェン：触ってもいい？（モスがうなずく。ジェンが箱を持ち上げる）あら、すごく軽い。

Moss: Of course it is, Jen! The internet doesn't weigh anything!
モス：もちろんさジェン！インターネットには重さがない！

Jen: [laughing] No, no, of course it doesn't!
ジェン：（笑いながら）そうよね、もちろん重さはないわ！

[Roy enters the room]
（ロイが部屋に入ってくる）

Roy: [irritated] Hey! What is Jen doing with the Internet?
ロイ：（イラついて）ちょっと！ジェン何してるのインターネットで？

Jen: Moss said I could use it for my speech.
ジェン：モスがスピーチに使っていいっていうから。

Roy: Are you insane? What if she drops it?
ロイ：気は確かか？落としたらどうするんだ？

Jen: I won't drop it, I'll look after it!
ジェン：落とさないわよ。ちゃんとするから。

Roy: No. No, no, no, no, Jen. [He takes the box from Jen] No, this needs to go straight back to Big Ben.
ロイ：だめだめだめだよ、ジェン。（ジェンから箱を取って）だめ。これはビッグ・ベンに返さなきゃ。

Jen: Big Ben?
ジェン：ビッグ・ベン？

Moss: Yep. It goes on top of Big Ben. That's where you get the best reception.
モス：そうさ。ビッグ・ベンの上。そこが一番よく受信できるんだ。

Jen: I promise I won't let anything happen to it.
ジェン：何も起こらないって約束するから。

Roy: No, Jen, I'm sorry. [Jen becomes woeful] The Elders of the Internet would never stand for it.
ロイ：だめだジェン。ごめん（ジェンが悲痛になってくる）インターネットの先輩達が許さないよ。

Moss: Oh no, I spoke to the Elders of the Internet not one hour ago. I told them about Jen winning Employee of the Month, and they were so impressed, that they wanted to do whatever they could to help.
モス：いやいや、１時間くらい前にインターネットの先輩達と話したんだ。ジェンが今月の優秀社員に選ばれたこと。先輩達すごく感激してたよ、で、何でも助けてくれるって。

Jen: [suspiciously] Wait a minute, the "Elders of the Internet"!? [shocked] The Elders of the Internet know who I am!? You've got to let me have it!
ジェン：（疑って）ちょっと待って。「インターネットの先輩達？」（ショックを受けて）インターネットの先輩達が私なんかの事を知ってくれてるの？私にそれを渡して！

Roy: No, Jen, I'm sorry, it's just too risky!
ロイ：ダメだジェン。危なすぎるよ。

Jen: Oh, please, Roy!
ジェン：お願いよロイ！

Roy: [resignedly] Well, Moss, has it been completely demagnetised?
ロイ：（あきらめて）そうか、モス、磁気は完璧に除去ずみ？

Moss: By Stephen Hawking himself. [to Jen] He sends his congratulations, by the way.
モス：スティーブン・ホーキング自らによってね。（ジェンにむかって）彼がジェンにおめでとうだって。

Roy: Well, if it's okay with the Hawk...
ロイ：そうか、ホークが良いって言うなら…

Jen: So, can I have it?
ジェン：持ってっていいのね？

Roy: You can.
ロイ：いいだろう。

[Roy and Moss dramatically give the box to Jen. As soon as she leaves the room, Roy and Moss dance happily]
（ロイとモスはドラマチックに箱をジェンに渡す。ジェンが部屋を出たとたん、ロイとモスは喜びのダンスを踊る）

ロストによく出てきた言い回し

ロストを全シーズン見終わったので、ちょっとメモ。
ロストによく出て来た言い回しだけど、要は普通にアメリカ英語で出て来る表現かと。

・Do you mind if I ask ...
「訊いてもいい？」の言い出し。politeな表現。

・Am I interrupting you?
「お邪魔かな？」これもpoliteな表現。

・Die alone Live together
間に or が入ると思うんだけど入ってない。LOSTの決め台詞です。ググるとこれのタトゥーとか出てくる。
「一人で死ぬか、みんなで生きるか」だと私は思ったんだけど、他の方で「みんなで行きて、死ぬときはひとり」ってのがあって、いまいちわからない。仲間を助けに行く時とか、誰かを見捨てない時に言ってた台詞。

・What makes you so sure (that) ...
「何でそう思うの？」ですね。Whyの言い換えだけどこっちの方がクッションがあって良いのかな。

・Grab some water
「水を持って」単にbringで良いところをgrabってのが面白いなと。ジャングルに入る時に仲間によく言ってた。水分補給は大事。

・No offense
「悪気はないんだけど」短くて使いやすい言い回し。言い換えに Don't take it personally(または personal) but ... もある。

・The more the merrier
「多い方が楽しい」

・Mississippi
これは数を数える時にブツブツひとりで「one mississippi, two mississippi」とやる。フレンズでもあったな。「いーち、にーい」みたいな事らしい。

・You need to ( NOT you have to)
これは相手に対して have to はキツいので need to なのかなと。 have to は自分の時に使う感じ。

・You have my word.
「約束するよ」ジョン・ロックがよく言ってた。I promise you よりこっちの方が多かった。
